Organic Gardening

"No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden."  Thomas Jefferson

Is gardening your passion?  Would you love to grow delicious, crisp, juicy fruits and vegetables free of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers?  Then organic gardening is the way to go and I can help you.

Organic gardening starts with building your soil.  The richer in organic matter such as compost, grass clippings, kitchen scraps, and mulch your garden soil is the more rewarding your gardening efforts will be.  It may take some time to nurture organic soil but as a gardening lover you know your efforts have not been wasted when you bring to your family's table fresh, crisp greens, firm, ripe vegetables and sweet, juicy fruits.

Next, in the process of organic gardening you want to entice beneficial insects to your garden.  Yes! there are "good bugs".  This is an important part of organic gardening.  These "good bugs" will be your pest control.  They will either eat the undesirable garden pests or live in or on the pest until it is dead.  Some of these helpful insects can be purchased.  However, nothing does it better than nature its self.  Several ways to entice these insects

1) Stop using pesticides.  They kill the "good bugs" too!

2) Plant flowers that are small and rich in nectar such as thyme, lemon balm, dill and parsley.

True organic gardening uses herbicide-free weed control.  (Those nasty little intruders will grow out of a patch of cement, won't they?)  The weeds will smother your plants and rob your soil of essential moisture and nutrients.  Some of the methods used in organic gardening are mulching, cultivating, hand-weeding and yes, and plain old hoeing.

Organic gardening can be a truly rewarding experience.  Organic gardening is more than just keeping your garden free of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.  It recognizes how delicately and intricately all of nature is interconnected and strives to maintain that connection.  In turn, your organic garden will provide you and your family with tasty, nutritional fruits and vegetables for as long as you choose.  So, put on your garden gloves and let's begin organic gardening!
